EMS Technician – Level II

Reports To: EMS Technician Manager / EMS Project Manager / EMS Operations Manager

Department: EMS Operations Department

Job Type: Full Time Role – Hourly

 

Definition

 

The EMS Technician – Level II is responsible for having a solid base of knowledge of the energy management / building automation industry. Logical Solutions Inc is and Automated Logic & Distech dealer who also works with additional Niagara Tridium Systems.  EMS Tech Level II will be able to perform all responsibilities of an EMS Tech Level I, as well as the assigned responsibilities below.  EMS Tech Level II will perform work under the guidance and leadership of an EMS Tech Level III and/or a Project Manager.  All work must meet the requirements of the LSI Installation and Commissioning Standards.

 

Responsibilities

 

Basic Skills:

  1. Ability to identify all pieces of equipment related to the automation/controls industry.
  2. Can install, execute, and explain all ARC 156 rules and devices.
  3. Base understanding of process for temperature and humidity control.
  4. Solid understanding and ability to decipher all equipment schematics.
  5. Can troubleshoot majority of wiring problems, i.e. interlocks.
  6. Can locate request source for all equipment within the ALC logic.
  7. Can address (IP) all ALC routers, i.e. LGRs, Opti-flex, G Series.
  8. Can calibrate all end devices, i.e. temperature, airflow, pressure, humidity, gas.
  9. Understands all ALC modules, capabilities, uses, selections.

 

Technical Knowledge:

  1. Can troubleshoot network issues with a Diag485.
  2. Understanding of basic mechanical piping / ducting.
  3. Can perform system run time and request setup in ALC logic.
  4. Can properly locate thermowells, pressure devices, and temperature sensors.
  5. Can understand and install interlock wiring for drives, high static limits, and dampers.
  6. Proper understanding of building static and differential pressure.
  7. Confident with program and graphic adjustments in the field / small scale applications.
  8. Basic knowledge of lighting panels and interlocks.
  9. Early understanding of lighting integration and assistance with checkout.
  10. Basic knowledge and understanding of all control protocols used by LSI, i.e. BACnet, Modbus, MSTP
  11. Full understanding of third-party interfaces, start to finish.
  12. Understands and can follow electrical one-line diagrams.
  13. Ability to assist Test & Balance (air & water) with WebCTRL access and building balancing.
  14. Understands and demonstrates commissioning process without assistance.
  15. Retrieves system backups properly and timely.  Properly distributes and stores.
  16. Assists Level III or PM with all inspections and presentation of system to customer.
  17. Understands function of PID control and ability to tune parameters to optimize.

 

Equipment:

  1. Can identify the following AHUs: SZ, MZ, VAV, DD, MAU, OA, ERU, FCU
  2. Can perform unit checkout and startup without assistance on the following: SZAHU, DDAHU, MAU, FCU
  3. Can perform unit checkout and startup with assistance on the following: MZAHU, VAVAHU, ERU, OA
  4. Can commission all fan applications: OA, SA, RA, EF, TEF, Garage, Stairwell
  5. Early understanding of central plants and associated equipment.
  6. Can assist with mission critical checkout / commissioning.

 

Strengths / Communication / Motivation:

  1. Beginning to help lead other technicians within crew / assigned tasks.
  2. Can efficiently handle multiple duties on more than one project simultaneously.

 

Qualifications:

  1. Previous Controls or Construction Experience.
  2. High School graduate or equivalent.
  3. HVAC or Instrumentation/Controls trade knowledge.
  4. Understands customer satisfaction and quality of work.
  5. Strong work ethic and positive attitude.
  6. Clean Motor Vehicle Record.
