Definition
The EMS Technician – Level I is responsible for learning the basics of the energy management / building automation industry. Logical Solutions Inc is and Automated Logic & Distech dealer who also works with additional Niagara Tridium Systems. EMS Tech Level I will perform work under the guidance and leadership of an EMS Tech Level II and a Project Manager. All work must meet the requirements of the LSI Installation and Commissioning Standards.
Responsibilities
Basic Skills – Electrical & Computer:
- Basic use of a multi-meter. Ability to read ohms, volts, amps, resistance, etc.
- Basic knowledge of electrical circuits and ability to read diagrams.
- Understands Windows and computer functions, including Word, Excel, Browsers, & Email.
- Has read and understands LSI Installation and Commissioning Standards.
- Learns and understands ARC 156 rules and standards.
- Accurately and timely records and submits timesheets.
Technical Knowledge (Preferred, not required):
- Can read, understand, and identify equipment on floor plans.
- Understands importance of schematics, submittals, and data sheets.
- Can perform communication line inspections and pull tests.
- Ability to troubleshoot minor wiring termination problems.
- Learns and understands how to navigate WebCTRL software.
- Ability to launch and connect with all versions of ALC software.
- Ability to perform network startup.
- Proficiency in point-to-point checkout and short-to-ground method.
- Properly configures end devices and instrumentation.
- Understands logic page structure and layout.
- Understand Equipment Parent-Child relationship and how to implement.
- Understands schedules / properties / parameters / alarms / trends.
- Can review thermographic floorplans and identify link issues / problems.
- Ability to draw / mark communication lines per actual installation for record.
- Properly uses LSI red book during onsite checkout and startups.
- Understands and demonstrates commissioning process with assistance.
- Uses WebCTRL / Commissioning tools properly
- Be thorough with documentation of startup issues and equipment notes.
- Relays changes, issues, revisions, and system backups to the proper authority figures.
Equipment:
- Can identify the following terminal units: VAVs, FPBs, CVBs, DDBs
- Can identify the following units: RTUs, FCUs, EFs
- Can perform terminal unit checkout and startup without assistance.
- Can perform roof top, fan coil, and exhaust fan checkout and startup with assistance.

Qualifications:
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- HVAC or Instrumentation/Controls trade knowledge.
- Understands customer satisfaction and quality of work.
- Strong work ethic and positive attitude.
- Clean Motor Vehicle Record.
